A Facebook post on Selina Hayat Ivy’s campaign for Narayanganj City Corporation election “wearing a saree gifted by Shamim Osman” goes viral on the social media.
The post on an account in the name of the Awami League-backed mayor candidate Ivy shows a photo wearing the new saree.
“In the name of Allah, I’ve begun my today’s move wearing a saree sent by my brother [Shamim Osman],” the post read.
The post has already shared nearly 600 times in six hours and drawn huge admirations from her fans and supporters.
In another post on an account in the name of Shamim Osman, the ruling AL lawmaker, shows three photos of the saree “he gifted to Ivy”.
“I am not able to take part your election campaign directly due to being a Member of the Parliament. However, remember, your older brother is always with you like a shadow,” the post read.
Contacted, Jahirul Islam Jahir, Ivy’s election campaign media cell coordinator, said that the account was not her.
“Her fans might have opened different accounts in the name of Ivy for the election campaign,” he said, adding that Ivy wore the saree in the Facebook, on November 24 long before Shamim Osman gifted her saree last night.
“She [Ivy] has no connection with the account that posted the photo,” he also said.
After AL picked Ivy as the mayor candidate in the December 22 polls, party president Sheikh Hasina held a meeting at the Gono Bhaban with Narayanganj district AL leaders, including Shamim and Ivy, on November 22.
At the meeting, Hasina reportedly instructed all of them to work together to ensure Ivy’s victory.
Sixteen days after the instruction, Shamim Osman publicly extended his support to Ivy yesterday, refuting all media reports on the conflicts between them.
